Today, I want to give you an opportunity to practice the modals we have been studying. Now that we have finished Units 5 and 10, you will be able to put it all together.

Please work through the following websites:

1) Modals of Advice. Practice with "Should, Ought to, and Had Better"

2) General Modals. Practice with "Could, Can, May, Must, Might and Should"

3) Modals of Deduction. Practice with " Must, Might, Could, Can't"

**Each website is different. Don't forget to READ THE DIRECTIONS!**

Afterwards, you can log on to Tell Me More and have fun! :)

Wednesday, Oct. 27th! Modal Adventure Time

Hey guys, so we're going to try to get through a couple of different things in the lab today.

1) First, I'd like you guys to practice modals.
There are so many, and each of them has multiple uses that although the form is quite easy, learning all the different ways to use them takes a lot of time. Please practice your modals on the websites below.

This exercise is a little tricky, but it will give you good practice for the subtle differences in can, might, may, could, and must with probability.

This exercise is a good one to practice the modals must, have to, should and ought to with advice.

This exercise gives you lots of practice with the forms of should, ought to, and had better for advice.


2) After you have finished these three exercises, please log on to Tell Me More. Please work on listening or pronunciation exercises. Remember, I recieve an email report with your scores, so please do your best. You will be graded for your TMM work today!


PS: This is a good website to bookmark in your home computer. It has lots of grammar lessons and practice with ALL of the English modals. You can practice with this website for a long time and always have something new to do! :)

Preparing For Your Grammar Exam!

We have our test next week and I hope you are studying! Please review the different websites you can use to practice the grammar that will be on the test. Do any or all of them--start with the grammar you need to work on the most!

Tell Me More!

Hey guys! Today, we will FINALLY get to use Tell Me More! I hope you will like it and it will be lots of fun!
Here are the instructions to get started.

Go to Tell Me More's website!

Then, on your Internet browser, go to "Tools" --> "Popup Blocker" --> "Disable Popup Blocker"
This is very important because the program will not work if you do not disable the popups.

Follow the instructions on the back of your TMM card.

Choose Level 2 with Nikkie as your teacher. PLEASE CHOOSE THE CORRECT LEVEL AND TEACHER!

Choose "Your Objectives" on the right side of the screen. Then, choose "Intermediate" Speaking program to begin.

You will have 45 minutes to play around and become familiar with the program and the different types of activities you can do. You can work on anything you want to work on! :)

You will see 3 columns (Easy, Medium and Difficult) under "General Listening Quizzes."

Please choose to work under Easy (or Medium t0 challenge yourself!)
Follow the instructions (I. Pre-Listening Exercises).
Listen to the recording as many times as you want.
After listening to the recording, take the quiz (II. Listening Exercises).
At the end of the quiz, click on "Score."
Copy and paste the results of your scores into an email and send it to me at nikirby@yahoo.com at THE END OF CLASS!
